Mission Statement: The mission of the Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, operating in a non-profit manner, shall be to promote the use, understanding, knowledge, growth, development, operation, and management of the Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and wildlife refuges in general, by the education of, and information transmitted to, the public and particularly to children.

Activities will be utilized to increase awareness pertaining to the use and purpose of Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and to promote responsible stewardship of related watersheds and ecosystems in the best interests of all life on earth.  Such activities will benefit the fish, wildlife and habitat resources, the parties and the people of Maine and elsewhere through enhanced knowledge and appreciation for refuges and the environment as a whole.  Advocacy of the refuge via communication with local, state, and national government will be encouraged by the Friends' members to send a clear message that Sunkhaze Meadows NWR is a valued and fundamental resource.

Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows NWR is a non-profit organization consisting of concerned citizens, outdoor enthusiasts, and others who share commitment to its purpose of mission and to programs and activities which, when implemented, will accomplish specific goals and objective designed to support its mission.

Fundamentally, Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows NWR views itself in an independent but supportive and helping auxiliary role charged with promoting the responsible management and use, and inherent value of Sunkhaze Meadows NWR.  A basic belief held by this group is that the people of Maine and elsewhere are concerned about the environment and want to learn how to become better stewards of their natural resources.  Given the opportunity, Maine people and others will become active, responsible agents in promoting and maintaining a safe and productive environment.

The Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows will actively pursue the development of the volunteer program at the Refuge, and any other purposes pursuant to the successful realization of the objectives and purposes of the Refuge. To facilitate and foster public awareness, the Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows will provide technical and promotional information to the members of the Friends and to the general public in the form of studies, papers, symposia, lectures or other forms of information transfer or education concerning the history, development, operation, and management of national wildlife refuges.
